Wheeler’s Guesthouse in KL, Malaysia

No 131-133 Jalan Tun H. S. Lee, Chinatown, KL, Malaysia
Our room for the night

Tonight, in KL we are staying in Chinatown at the Wheeler’s Guesthouse. I’m praying we don’t have bedbugs. We do have, however, cockroaches, lots of them, in the room and bathroom. It should make it an interesting night.

Times Square Megamall

That afternoon, we decide to go see a movie at Times Square (Bintulu) Megamall and get out of the heat and humidity. We see “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor”. We have assigned seats; I have never seen that before. I have also never seen an advertisement for Skin Whitening before a movie. The break from the heat was welcomed and the movie; fun. We eat and I have delicious fried rice with cucumbers and chicken along with a watermelon drink.

On our way back to the hostel we stopped to try to make phone calls to the hostels on the island we are going to tomorrow but none of the phones work. We go to Wheeler’s Guesthouse and try the internet, 2 ringgits (25₵) for 30 minutes with no success. Andy went to our room to rest and cool down under the ceiling fan. I decided to send a chatty, catch-up email back home and as I press the send button, it doesn’t send it and disappears. Such a low point but it gets lower because with all the cockroaches I decide to try to sleep with the lights on. The thought of those critters crawling on me is too much. Now, I’m not saying it hasn’t happened to me before. In fact, when Frank and I were moving from Pennsylvania to Texas we stopped one night in Birmingham, Alabama. I never saw the cockroaches in our hotel room until I turned on a light at 1 am and they scattered so fast from the bed, floor, walls, us. We left right then and there. Cockroaches don’t like light and I don’t like them. They can crawl on someone else tonight. Andy slept okay. I was up every hour because I’m hot and the light is keeping me up. It’s noisy outside our room; some girl got locked out of her room and at 2:45 am she’s yelling, “Alex, wake up!” Alex must have woken up and I turned off the lights at 3 am. Some nights are just better than others.

Han Christian Anderson said, "To travel is to live." I know I did a lot of living before I started traveling but traveling is thrilling. I learned more about myself, it opened my eyes and heart that staying at home couldn't do. I'm stronger, more aware and more grateful for the life I have. ~ "The LORD keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever." Psalm 121:8
