The Raffles Hotel in Singapore

The Raffles Hotel, Singapore

The Raffles Hotel in Singapore is one of the most famous hotels in Singapore. The Raffles is an opulent, magnificent colonial-style hotel. The hotel opened in 1887 and was named after Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, British colonizer of Singapore. The first time I really heard about the Raffles Hotel in Singapore was in 1979 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I was visiting my family and my older sister had a white t-shirt with “I had a Singapore Sling at the Raffles Hotel” written on the back of it. I was so jealous of that t-shirt. I got over being envious, didn’t have a Singapore Sling while in Singapore but seeing the hotel was spectacular.

Han Christian Anderson said, "To travel is to live." I know I did a lot of living before I started traveling but traveling is thrilling. I learned more about myself, it opened my eyes and heart that staying at home couldn't do. I'm stronger, more aware and more grateful for the life I have. ~ "The LORD keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever." Psalm 121:8
