I must say sleeping under mosquito netting makes me feel protected and secure. Protected from nasty bugs and insects but not from Nosey, our resident gecko. It turns out when he’s not walking the walls of our bathroom, he hangs out on top of the bathroom door threshold. It really is nice that our bungalow has its own bathroom but the tin roof is pitched and the walls are not, therefore, there is a large gap above the bathroom and bedroom door where Nosey likes to sleep. It’s just a little unnerving not really knowing where he is at night. I’d rather not think about it.
Today is an 8-hour snorkeling day that starts at 9 am. We board a little powered rowboat that takes us out to a larger two-deck boat. There, we meet with ten other fellow snorkelers. The others all speak German. In fact, we noticed yesterday that most people are speaking German. Maybe this location is in a German Travel book?
I’m having the same issue with my snorkel getting water in it. It’s awful because every few minutes you have to take off your mask and snorkel, clear out the water on the snorkel by blowing out the water or shaking it upside down, put the mask and snorkel in place and back on all while you’re treading water. It’s a shame too because there are so many beautiful fish at this stop. When I get back onto the boat, I asked our guide, “What am I doing wrong?” It turns out, I’m not doing anything wrong, the hose is broken. Fortunately, he has a spare I can use. That makes all the difference, I don’t have to change anything on all the other stops.
We have a total of six places to snorkel and each stop has different kinds of fish to see. So incredible. I wish I knew the names of the fish I’m seeing. We had lunch on the boat, a big pot of chicken fried rice, watermelon and pineapple slices with a can of Coke. Really tasty, Andy had three helpings, and just fun. I mean here we are on a boat taking us to scenic snorkeling areas, serving us lunch while we sit on or swim in the Gulf of Thailand all on a cloudy day. Perfect!
Jumping off the boat into the water, swimming, looking for fish and water-life, climbing the ladder back into the boat and being on the boat for eight hours gets tiring so when we return to our bungalow at 5 pm we rest for a while. That’s when I found out I made a big, rookie mistake and I’m no rookie. My back is so red and sore. What was I thinking? Why didn’t I listen to my own advice? Wear a tee-shirt even if it’s cloudy!
For dinner, we walked next door to The Poskaw Restaurant. Chicken fried rice with cashews for me and Thai Chicken for Andy. The rest of the evening was quiet; played cards, took in the magnificent view, and went to bed early. I’m beat. Andy slept in the hammock on the porch until I don’t know what time.
